Poodles In The Wild

You can preview the song “Poodles In The Wild” from my upcoming CD “Says The Rain” just below. But some of you may be wondering how the song came to be…

toy poodle

“Fifi saw it coming…”

It was at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 2011 that my friend Terri told the story that led to the song. She was working as a dog groomer and a client brought his poodle in to be groomed. Its fur was all thick and matted. It was almost like felt and she was trying to explain to him why they were going to have to shave off all of the poodles fur. It was at this point that he looked at her and said, “I don’t understand. What do poodles in the wild do?” Well…

I wrote the song within a couple weeks, played it out a few times, and then included it in the demos I sent to Lloyd Maines for the new CD project. Once the mix started developing, I decided it would be the closing number on the album. Pat Manske really rocked out on the drums and Lloyd got the idea to add the funky banjo track.

It was just after we finished the final mixdown in Austin that I returned to Kerrville (in 2012) and finally got to play the song for Terri and the rest of the SingKerrNicity tribe. Needless to say it was a minor hit around the campsite.

Enjoy it here and look for it (and the rest of the tunes) on iTunes very soon.
